Current Summer Programs 2014

While visiting Jekyll this summer, be sure to check out our fun-filled, family oriented programs.  4-H Tidelands offers great summer-time learning experiences for all ages. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate (Except for Day Camp). Reservations required. Please call Tidelands @ 912-635-5032 for reservations.

Mid-Morning Brunch (Feeding Program) Join us for our ‘Mid-Morning Brunch’ program.  Learn about marine food webs & feeding adaptations. Watch/help feed our marine critters. Includes 30 minute talk- then its brunch time for the critters! Meets Mondays & Weds. June & July: 10:45am-11:45am @Tidelands. Cost: $6.00 per/person (includes admission).

Summer Seining at South Dunes Learn to use a seine net to catch fish, shrimp, crabs, etc. Participants should wear clothes/shoes for knee deep wading. Meets Tuesdays in June/July: 10:45am-11:45am @ South Dunes Picnic Area. Cost: $6.00 per person.

Stars on the Water: Astronomy Nights at Tidelands Nature Center Great opportunity to enjoy the night skies. View stars and planets via telescope. Program begins at sunset with an audio-visual presentation. Meets select Wednesdays: June 4th, June 18th, July 2nd, July 16th,& July 30th from 9:00-10:00pm on the deck @ Tidelands. Cost $6.00 per adult (regular $4.00 admission for children).

Coastal Explorers at Tidelands Nature Center (Coastal program theme varies each week!) Children 4-10 are introduced to coastal ecology themes. Explore native animals/ecosystems. Includes making a related craft to take home. Meets every Friday morning: June 6th - August 8st; 10:45am-11:45am @ Tidelands. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost: $6.00 per child ($4.00 admission for adults).  Themes vary each week such as; terrific turtles, a bug’s life, what’s up dock, under the sea, birds the word, etc. Check our website and Facebook for Coastal Explorers weekly program theme schedule:  www.tidelands4h.org.

Discovery Day Camp at Tidelands Nature Center (Coastal program theme varies each day!) Our day camps are open to the public and available for children 8-12 years old.  Day camps are held Monday through Thursday from 10:00 am-3:00 pm, during select weeks in June and July. Offered: June 16-19th, June 30- July 3rd, July 14-17th, and July 28 -31st. Children can participate in a single day or sign up for several days. *Each day is $35 and you will receive a $10 discount if you sign your child up for 4 days. Includes; programs, field trips, games, crafts, and more.   (*Boat trip with Capt. Philip an additional $13). Themes vary each day:

Monday- Forest Friends Get hands-on with reptiles, investigate insects, & go birding. It’s a nature safari!

Tuesday- Salt Pond Sleuths- Dip for invertebrates, explore the marsh, & paddle a canoe in Tidelands’ salt pond.

Wednesday- Sand, Surf, & ShellsSpend the day on the beach, learn to use seine net & go beachcombing!

Thursday- Super Sharks & Fantastic Fins - Dissect sharks, go fishing, and enjoy a boat trip with Captain Phillip

4-H Tidelands Nature Center

Tidelands Nature Center offers hands-on marine environmental science programs for the general public and school groups, kayak tours, and a live animal exhibit area.

Meet a young sea turtle, explore our touch tanks, and observe live alligators, snakes, fish, crabs and many other animals native to Georgia's coast in our exhibit gallery.

Take a guided kayak tour of Jekyll's salt marsh ecosystem.

Rent a canoe or paddleboat and enjoy fishing or a relaxing paddle on the pristine salt pond, adjacent to Tidelands.

Nature walks and other special programs for families and for school and scout groups are available throughout the year. Learn about Jekyll's coastal ecosystems with one of our guides as you explore Jekyll's beach, forest and marsh.

Mark your calendars for the 12th annual 4-H Tidelands Nature Center 'Art Inspired by Nature' Sale, Sunday February 16th, 2014. The winter tradition continues with a host of artists, displaying their coastal themed art for sale.  The annual event features an eclectic array of artwork created by talented local artists from our coastal Georgia area. Look for your favorites  from Jekyll, St. Simon’s, Brunswick and McIntosh displaying stained glass art, paintings, pottery, hand-blown glass jewelry, metal sculptures, wooden bowls, books, animal art, bake goods, hand made soaps, and much more! Come shop for your favorite piece and be sure to bid on silent auction items too!

Tidelands Spring 2014- Home School Days!!

Our homeschool days are open to all school-age students.  Programs run every other Friday this spring (Feb- April). Program dates are as follows: Feb 7th, Feb 21th, March 7th, March 21st, April 4th, & April 18th. Program themes vary each date. Check out: 4-H Tidelands Home School Days for program themes. Program includes a morning session (10:00am -12:00 pm). Cost: $10 per person (children AND adults).  Students can participate in a single day or sign up for the month. All classes are rain or shine, so please make sure your students are dressed appropriately for the outdoors.
